Richard Laymon is One of my all-time favorite writers. Richard Laymon had a way of making the bizarre seem normal. He was the master at writing about characters that the reader suspicions may be a more prevalent part of our world than we want to admit. Characters who not only think about their secret desires but act on them, often. Richard wrote several vampire stories (Stake & The Traveling Vampire Show) that are among my all-time favorites, but he also could describe the worst in humanity in times of crisis (Quake & Island). The works of Laymon are diverse to be sure, however, he consistently develops characters throughout all of his works that are deviant in their lusts. Or are they? If you haven’t read Laymon, you are missing out on one of the true horror masters.
